Over the years, my two boys (they are now 9 and 11 yo) would ask me what I do for a living.
You see it can be a bit complicated when you try to explain to kids their age that for the last 20 years I have been an IT Manager, Technical Lead, Senior Systems Admin, Technical Project Manager, IT Consultant, Network Administrator, Network Engineer, Mentor, etc. Instead of just saying I’m a lawyer, banker or nurse you get stumped on how to explain it to them the simplest way. I have on occasions just told them that I work on IT or I fix computers (I couldn’t even mention ‘systems’ as that would trigger a series of further questions).
Yes, similar to Bob the Builder, I fix computers at work for a job. It’s that simple and they get it!
